Re: Possible Jaws Problem???

I had something of a similar issue with the PowerBraille 80 when I was
installing JAWS4.5 onto a computer. I eventually got it working, but I
had to remove (I think) all prior versions of JAWS (there were two or
three). Have you tried the Repair JAWS (or the modify radiobutton in
the Tools,
Installation Maintenance dialogue?)
Do you have prior versions of JAWS on your system, see if things work
with the powerBraille there? If you do have, uninstall prior JAWS
versions before reinstalling? Or, in addition to uninstalling JAWS5,
remove also the folders and everything to do with it, before
reinstalling?

Subject: Possible Jaws Problem???

Hi All:
Help!

We encountered a very strange problem a few days and we've been battling
ever since then with my computer.

When my daughter turned off Jaws the other day to use the computer
herself to check on email and browse on Internet which was nothing new
for her as well as our son. The major difference was, however, I have a
new Desktop which I got last February. The computer no longer could
initialize Braille driver when we tried to get Jaws to work with it. We
also tried a different Braille display to no avail before the tech came
over on Saturday morning.

The tech said that since Power Braille units uses only COM1, we tested
out Braille Lite M40 which also did not work on COM1. We were somewhat
convinced that the serial port COM1 was defective and set BL M40 tow ork
on COM4.

Today I called Dell to report the problem with the serial card. They
had us do the performance test and claimed that the serial card was
communicating fine and dandy. They said it was probably Jaws problem?
We've uninstalled and reinstalled Jaws 5.0 quite a few times.

One additional note, before we encountered all that, we installed AIM
5.2 (you all said it was no problem), new printer, and changed other
printer to go to network, etc. We even "restored" the setting to before
we made all these changes as per Dell's advice. Dell could not help us
further since we got a new serial port card after I got the new computer
elsewhere.

Help! If I have time tomorrow, I plan to call Freedom Scientific
tomorrow. Whew!

Thank you!

Jeff
