Short Description:

The JAWS Eloquence synthesizer may have trouble with specific, misspelled words which may result in loss of speech.

Problem:

When a specific misspelling or typo of the word "seizure" and "have" is encountered by the Eloquence or ViaVoice synthesizer, the synthesizer will quit.
This can result in loss of speech and an error dialog.

JAWS and MAGic use Eloquence as the default software synthesizer. OpenBook uses ViaVoice.

Solution:

To minimize the risk of the misspellings affecting you, a replacement file is available for download for JAWS, MAGic and OpenBook.

For JAWS:
1. Download the following file and save it in an easily accessible folder on your hard drive.
ftp://ftp.freedomscientific.com/users/hj/private/WebFiles/Tools/ELOQMAIN.ZIP
2. Using Windows Explorer, navigate to the location in which you saved the .zip file and extract the contents.
3. Copy the file you just extracted to the following folders:
a) C:\Program Files\Freedom Scientific\Shared\Eloquence\6.1
b) And to the folder where your product is installed:
- The default installation folder for JAWS 6.0 and later is C:\Program Files\Freedom Scientific\[PRODUCT]\[VERSION]. For example: C:\Program Files\Freedom
Scientific\JAWS\6.20
- Earlier versions of JAWS are by default installed in the root directory of your hard disk in a folder with the same name as the product. For example:
C:\JAWS510, and so on.
4. If you are prompted to overwrite the existing file when you copy the dictionary file into the program folder, choose Yes.
5. After adding this file, restart the program.
