Outlook Express problem sending mail

I am sighted and trying to help a blind person, Gennie, send mail with
Outlook Express. We are using JFW 5.0.
JAWS is installed on both computers so that I can try things at home and
again when I get to Gennie's house. After opening Outlook Express I press
Ctrl N to get the form for a new message.
After composing the message I press Ctrl M to send a receive mail, but
this just acts as a carriage return adding additional lines.
When I press ctrl s to send it puts the message into the draft folder. I
highlight the message in the Draft folder and press Ctrl M again and it
appears to be sending and receiving but remains in the draft folder. It
does not appear in the sent mail folder nor in the recipient's in box. I
have tried to send mail from my computer to hers and she has sent from hers
to mine but neither of us receives the mail.

What are we doing wrong?
