RE: One more thing about using a BitTorrent client

It's not compromised unless something is "listening" on those ports, and
that something is of a nature that someone could do something with it
that's unsecure.  I don't consider use of a BitTorrent client to be
unsecure, but you should of course do what you think is best.  

If you think that's too broad a range of ports; then, choose a smaller
range, open them, and configure your BitTorrent client just to use this
reduced range.
