Hello my fellow adventurers,
Believe it or not, to us, who are the old intrepid adventurers via the old
Infocom days, well, those days are now back! I now have a link to a website
where some great gentleman, who is now my newest best friend, fixed the
problems with the WinFrotz 2002, and now has it with, Ta Da, speech capability
witch works! Yeah! The webmaster's name is Scott, and he is looking for
people, like us, who would give him some feedback regarding, "tweaks" he has to
make to remove all the bugs for people with visual disabilities. There is an
E-mail address for him on one of those pages.
When you have installed the WinFrotz, then go to http://www.latz.org, and look
for a few of the games to download and play.
This is the step-by-step procedure to install Winfrotz TTS on your system:
1/ Go to
http://www.binaryrevelations.com/talkback/downloads.shtml
And
Download the file linked under "WinFrotz TTS 2002"
2/ this will result in a ZIP file called WinFrotzTTS2002_setup.zip on your
hard disk. Unpack this ZIP archive, which contains the setup program called
WinFrotzTTS2002_setup.exe. Launch that .exe and install the program
3/ Launch WinFrotz TTS (located at Start - Programs - WinfrotzTTS -
WinfrotzTTS). Attention: right at startup, the program will show a file
dialog in which you have to choose the story file you want to play. For
example, choose a Z code game you downloaded at latz.org. I think that there
is no audible indication of this dialog, and it is required to pick a game
at the beginning, otherwise Winfrotz will not start.
4/ Once you selected a story file, Winfrotz will open that particular story
and start the talking. It will read all the output created by the game, but
Not you're input.
5/ If Winfrotz does not work at all or does not talk, you will have to
install the Speech kit. You can find it at
http://www.binaryrevelations.com/talkback/downloads.shtml
under the link
called "English TTS package I put together from the Speech SDK". The
download will create a ZIP archive called CoreTTS.zip on your hard disk. As
before, unpacking the archive will result in an executable setup file called
CoreTTS.msi. Even though it does not have an .exe extension, you can launch
CoreTTS.msi like a regular program. Doing so will result in the speech SDK
being installed onto your computer.
6/ After completing step 5/, launch WinfrotzTTS again, select a story file,
and enjoy the text to speech.
Hope to see you all underneath the old white house!
Best Wishes-
Beto Escobar III
