Welcome to the list. I'm pretty sure you won't be able to upgrade from JAWS 5 to JAWS 8. It would require a new purchase. However, you can upgrade for free to JAWS 5.1, which many listers say is still a pretty workable version, though lacking in PDF-reading and other strengths. For the 5.1 upgrade, you'd need to go to the FS website at 
www.freedomscientific.com
All the same, it would be worth putting in a call to FS to make sure. I don't feel confident about this, but maybe they'd consider giving you a break if you mention you bought JAWS 5.0.
