Hi Ken, this is wonderful to hear! You know, the lines of communication within Audible aren't very good sometimes, and this is one of those cases. I have spent literally hours with second-level tech support people over the past week or so, and we've discussed the issues a lot-- especially that pernicious Details view-- and none of them was aware that any of what you describe was in progress. They knew nothing at all about it. You might recommend to your contacts that they not be quite so secretive about the state of their awareness of the accessibility problems and leave us to founder, including their own tech support people. Which isn't only an inconvenience but worse, bad public relations. Another result, especially on the Blind Audible Listeners mailing list, is that people try earnestly to help each other with what they feel are the best suggestions and workaround strategies and tie themselves in knots and even wind up squabbling over which of them/us is the more hardy blind computer user, the super blink, and who is faint-hearted and lazy, unwilling to do acrobatics with the Jaws cursor and give up full accessibility and not complain, and all this gets really unpleasant, when all the while, Audible could have made it known not just on the site, because it often happens that people faced with an ongoing issue like the Audible Manager problems, discussing it together online, assume that if one of them knew it was addressed in the FAQ or "knowledge base" material on the site, he or she would surely tell everyone. So at least the tech support folks ought to get bulletins updating them that these efforts are ongoing. In any case, I look forward to exploring these new developments, and thanks again for your efforts. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ken Gould" <gould100@xxxxxxx> To: "JFW User List" <jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Saturday, March 11, 2006 5:40 AM Subject: New Version of audibleManager and New Scripts To Everyone Interested in AudibleManager: I have been working very closely with the folks at audible since mid-December to improve the accessibility of the newest version of Audible Manager. Their developer even came to my house a couple of times so I could show him what was needed to make AudibleManager as accessible as possible. The newest version, 5.0.0.5 has just been released and is available at the audible site. Furthermore, I have written new scripts for this version of AudibleManager which have just been posted on the FS website. All of the information needed to download the new version of AudibleManager and the scripts is shown in the FAQ which I have copied below. Please note that these scripts are for JAWS 7.0 only. They may not work properly for earlier versions of JAWS. I wish to commend audible for their interest and dedication to making their software accessible. Please support this company as they have worked very hard to give us what we need. ******* >The following FAQ has been posted to the Freedom Scientific web site: ><http://www.freedomscientific.com/fs_support/BulletinView.cfm?QC=1035>http://www.freedomscientific.com/fs_support/BulletinView.cfm?QC=1035 > > >Bulletin Type: FAQ > > > >Date Posted: 03/10/2006 > >Product Name: JAWS > >Version: 7.0 > >Category: AudibleManager > > >Question: > > > >Can I use JAWS with AudibleManager version 5? > > >Answer: > > > >Yes.
