Agree 100 percent with your arguments, mark. A screen reader can no longer spacificly be about employment.

The one fault with your argument, sir, is that frankly, look all around at the way the internet is really becoming more and more a tool for one's enjoyment and less about just employment. It used to be that one used the internet primarily on the job b/c back then the internet wasn't widely used for anything else, mostly b/c of the technology not being there. Now though, you practically can't do anything without the internet or at least a computer being involved. Access to MS Office apps is just one part of what companies like FS are doing, as you know. but really, they would be doing all of us a disservice by limiting themselves to just getting MS Office straightened out. the reasons for this are numerous, but essentially boil down to (a) technology changes very rapidly and (b) as stated above, we've moved far beyond just education and employment. I'm afraid we can't go back to the "good old days" any more than we can go back to the horse and buggy for reliable transport. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Larry Stansifer" <larrys@xxxxxxxxxxxx>To: <jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Monday, September 22, 2008 8:27 PM Subject: RE: New FSCast Reveals Big News about JAWS 10Snore... so what...Let's get back to the Henter Joyce original mission statement of "Job Accesswith Speech." Just not an ITunes kinda guy, myself. That wasn't a dismissal. No way. So that's why everyone's making a big deal of the iTunes thing. The new Tandem feature is going to be great for all users b/c I remember having an issue a couple years ago with a website and the JAWS cursor with onmouseover links. The tech support person had no problem and I was the one with the problem that couldn't be duplicated. Now, if the Tandem feature had been there then, things would have been sorted out. so this is definitely a major step forward along those lines as well. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Yardbird" <yardbird@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Monday, September 22, 2008 7:12 PM Subject: Re: New FSCast Reveals Big News about JAWS 10I just listened to the FSCast, too. I'm not an ITunes user, although I certainly can appreciate the difference this scripting I think there's some built-in scripting in Jaws 10, anyway)and the MSAA on Apple's side will makewith Jaws, because I once explored the site out of curiosity and realized that without buying the JTunes scripts, there wasn't a chance in the world that I could even familiarize myself with the site's layout and features. So that's great, for those who will use it. But the feature they're making the big fuss about is this Tandem function that will allow someone, for instance a Jaws tech support person, to directly connect with a Jaws user's computer and actually operate it, tweak settings and scripts, and all sorts of helpful things. Just plain Jaws userswill be able to also use the feature for free acting as the "controller"to help a Jaws-using friend if it's only occasional usage, or pay aquarterlyor annual subscription fee. But for the user, the main advantage will bethat when you call FS tech support, they can connect with you and dostuffon your own computer, and you can continue to operate from your side, aswell, if that's called for. The podcast explains very clearly how it works. In this case, of course, the Jaws customer doesn't have to pay any fee.FSis paying on the support side, the "controller's" fee it's called. I remember a few years ago I got frustrated about an FS tech support person not being able to duplicate a problem I was describing, in this case a couple of bugs that he had a hard time understanding and couldn't duplicate on is own computer. I remember saying something like that audible.comhadsomething like this in place for years, and had often helped me withdifficult issues, so what was the big deal for FS? Of course there were reasonable-sounding answers about the complexity of a screen reader being involved or something, so I just let it go. But this ought to be reallynice for some users, especially newer ones but not exclusively so. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Chris Hallsworth" <christopherhallsworth71@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Monday, September 22, 2008 3:28 PM Subject: Re: New FSCast Reveals Big News about JAWS 10 Yeah I know what you mean! -- Chris Hallsworth E-mail: christopherhallsworth71@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx MSN: ch9675@xxxxxxxxxxx Skype: chrishallsworth7266 ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mark Driesenga" <truthobjective@xxxxxxxxx> To: <jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Monday, September 22, 2008 11:18 PM Subject: Re: New FSCast Reveals Big News about JAWS 10I can't wait for the new JAWS beta, just for the iTunes support! :) Definitely worth it. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Alex Midence" <alex.midence@xxxxxxxxx> To: <jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Monday, September 22, 2008 5:10 PM Subject: Re: New FSCast Reveals Big News about JAWS 10I'm excited about the possible patch for Jaws 8 and 9 and iTunes.
