Well, as I understood it here before on this list, someone spoke of
this way to turn speech off in JAWS 11.
You press JAWS key plus the spacebar. And then the letter S.
On my machine, when I do this, JAWS says "Speech Off." And then there
is no speech.
Then when I repeat the key commands, JAWS key plus spacebar, followed
by the letter S, JAWS says "Speech On." And howdy do, there is Mr.
JAWS,
speaking again.
I also have the little boink, boink, sounds when I press the JAWS key
and the spacebar, which I guess is the indication that the mode is on.
I think they call it the layered mode?

Looks like the "no speech option is not available in Jaws 11.
This might do what you want. Try Jaws key v and go to the last
option,
(synthesizer speech) and turn it off with spacebar. Speech will
stayoff
for the application till you bring focus back to it.

This doesn't accomplish what the choose synthesizer option used to
accomplish. Perhaps I need to rephrase my question.
Control-alt jaws key S used to have no speech amongst the
synthesizer
choices. Is this not an option any more?
