From what limited knowledge I have, and someone please correct me if I am 
wrong, but the reason that a merge worked is because the scripts worked with 
the previous version of Jaws.  In fact when running a beta fs asks that the 
merge not be run because it masks problems with the beta.

Hello all, I have noticed many reports of Jaws 9.0 Beta version not doing
what earlier versions of Jaws have done before, basically in OE and so on.
Well I did something when I was having a problem in Ad-Aware and using the
new Jaws Beta. Now the dumb part. The scripts did not work in Ad-Aware. What
i then did was to merge the settings in Jaws 9 with Jaws 8, and all is well
now. Maybe this might help some others with some of their problems with some
of their programs.
I know  I am probably getting laughed at, but it was something I forgot
about.
It worked for my situation.
