David,

under xp then the login screen isn't read to you (unless you do as Roy
suggests and start jaws for all accounts, and then stop it for each
account which doesn't want to use jaws with a special utility run for
those accounts as part of their login).

I think vista and jaws 9 does have this capability.

We have an xp laptop that I share with my wife at home, and she just
closes jaws.  It's easier for her to do that than it is for me to
reliably start jaws manually.
