No. MSConfig Cleanup (the program) will not clear all the items in your MS
Config file. You don't ever want to clear all the items in your MSConfig
file.
MSConfig cleanup will only remove the items that you have disabled
(unchecked in MSConfig) but remain in the list in MSConfig.
Okay now I am going to confuse you even more, smile.
If you want to use something to enable and disable items in MSConfig, you
can use something like Starter, or Start Up Manager, both of which I have on
the programs page at JFWLite. And there are helpful hints for them on the
helpful hints page.
These programs give you more information and more control over ALL the items
in the MSConfig utility.
Actually including the ability to delete items.
But, MSConfig Cleanup only shows disabled items in the MSConfig utility and
is a quick and easy way to remove those items.

Debbie,
I just want to learn how to use that program. As I understand, the program
will clear all items in my MS Config file. Now, at least, I have its
background.

Roden

Okay, I want to make sure that people understand this.
MSConfig (from the run men) is used to uncheck the items you don't want to
run at start up.
But even when you do this, the item remains in the MSConfig list.
MSConfig cleanup (the program), is used to remove these left over entries
from the MSConfig list.
Now to your question. It won't affect your antivirus from loading in any
way unless you purposely uncheck your antivirus application in MSConfig.
I
don't know why you would want to do that though. The only things that are
affected are the things you uncheck in MSConfig. And those are the only
items that will show up in the MSConfig cleanup program.

Jerry, do you mean the MSConfig Cleanup program itself? When I tab I
only
hear the buttons and a listview. I selected all the text in the virtual
viewer and I got the following. I'm not sure what you mean by what the
menu
entries do. There is no menu in the progam.

Hello Debbie.
I agree with you about all the junk in msconfig. In fact, when Tracy at
Freedom Scientific and I wer trouble-shooting a problem I was having, I
was quite surprised to find I could turn off everything I had in there.
One question, at the top of the window it gives a web address
purportedly to check what those menu entries do. I copied it with the
Jaws cursor only to find it was the home page. Am I wrong in how I read
that?
Thanks for bringing this one up.
Jerry

I know that there are some of you out there who are as obsessive
compulsive
as I am, smile, because you have written me about this before. You can
delete these entries from your registry. But I just found a freeware
program that does it and is jaws friendly.
MSConfig Cleanup
MSConfig is a small and helpful tool. It allows you
disable programs which are starting with Windows.
Unfortunately you can only disable items but they
remain in the list. MSConfig Cleanup lets you remove
the residue!
