General question: Does JAWS require periodic maintenance? If so, what steps should I take? Questions implied in the remainder of the text: 1. Do sighted users use computers differently than unsighted users? 2. If the answer to question one is in the affirmative, how might I ensure, as an unsighted user, that when I use the machine, it will function in a manner most appropriate to meet my needs? -----Original Message----- From: jfw-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:jfw-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Yardbird Sent: Wednesday, October 15, 2008 10:04 AM To: jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Re: MAINTENANCE JAWS FOR ITS BETTER PERFORMANCE Did the subscriber who asked this question say he or she was having problems with Jaws? I don't think so. As I recall, it was just a general question whether there were any steps a Jaws user ought to take in order to maintain good Jaws performance. I'm not expert enough to know whether the answer is simply "not really, except for normal good computer housekeeping," or to remind the person about the convention for making system settings in Windows considered optimal for Jaws, as on the Display page of the system settings menus. But I'm pretty sure that there was no complaint of having trouble with Jaws and seeking hints for restoring its lost efficiency or anything like that, which is what it sounds as if people are responding to. If I'm wrong, sorry. But if I heard right, then we could wind up with a long thread of well-meaning suggestions in response to problems that weren't even posed. ----- Original Message ----- From: "E.J. Pretty easy to create a new user account: Control Panel -> Users. It's possible that the system as a whole could use some general software maintenance: unneccessary programs running, spyware, etc. HTH, Everett ----- Original Message ----- From: "Gene" <gwilson@xxxxxxxx> To: <jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Wednesday, October 15, 2008 1:38 PM Subject: RE: MAINTENANCE JAWS FOR ITS BETTER PERFORMANCE > Do the other users have their own accounts on the machine?
