    I've been testing this, and it seems it's only that I can't paste from the 
web browser (explorer) into the dictionary manager. I tried pasting from 
notepad, which works fine, and also pasting from a browser window to a word 
document, which is also fine.

    As for the dash strings, they are spoken as "separator" only when reading 
with up or down arrow or if I insert-down to read the entire contents from 
cursor position. I can arrow over each individual dash character and it'll say 
"dash", so it's the entire string as a whole that's being interpreted as 
"separator". Interestingly, if I move word by word through the webpage jaws 
doesn't say a thing when it encounters these dashes. I can't find this in the 
pre-set dictionary word/values. The repeat filter is indeed set, but as this is 
clearly being interpreted differently by the programme it has no effect on it.

      Oh, sorry, I was thinking you were being plagued by the vertical bar 
separator that seems to be prevalent, which I was able to kill with that method.

      also not sure, but I have no problem pasting a character or a number of 
characters into the "actual Word" field of the dictionary manager. I'm also 
using JAWS 11.0.1471. Wonder if it has a limit to the number of characters?

      Now that we're talking about a string of dashes, have you set the "filter 
repeat characters" to a number like 3 or 4, to prevent them all from being read?

      Or does it actually say "separator" when you arrow past?

      And further to this thread, is it speaking separator when arrowing, or 
does the cursor actually land on it when using the tab key?

        Hmm, well, it doesn't seem to work...I may be doing something wrong, 
but I also noticed that you can't seem to paste characters from the clipboard 
into the "actual word" field of the dictionary box. THis seems a grim oversight 
indeed.

        For reference, the "separator string" is actually a line of 80 dashes

          Then you can be clever and copy the separator character from the web 
page, open your JAWS dictionary for the web browser, and assign a blank space 
to be "spoken" in place of that character. That should silence it.

            Unfortunately, it already seems to be set to "simple layout". This 
is apparently the default, which I haven't altered.

                Greetings.

                A minor annoyance that I can't seem to find a solution for. I 
recently upgraded to Jaws 11, and I find that now the programme will say 
"separator" when it encounters a long line of dash characters. This often 
happens with message boards in particular, as some may know. I've looked in 
various areas of the configuration manager and haven't found a way to turn this 
off. Personally, I would rather jaws simply not say a thing, as this is what 
occurred in all previous versions I've used as for general reading I usually 
have most punctuation announcements turned off.
                So, where can I silence this pesky thing?
