I guess what we are saying is that something is rong if we cannot do this in
the normal way. Why should we have to use this work around. It works fine
for me using the shift key and other keys that are native to windows and it
works fine using them with jaws turned off for others. This some how
becomes broken for some people and we need to know how to get the
functionality back. Thanks for the work around though.

Hi David,
Try this out:
Turn the Num Lock on and then press:
Down arrow: to select the current line.
Up arrow: to select the prior line
For the Next line: Turn the Num Lock off, come to the start of the line
which you want to select. Turn the Num Lock on again and press Down arrow to
select the current line.
Control+Left arrow & Control+Right arrow for selecting the prior and the
Next word.
Right and Left arrow for selecting the prior and the next character.
Control+Up arrow and Control+Down arrow for selecting the prior and the next
paragraph.

Please do not use the Shift key.
Turn the Num Lock off, once you have finished selecting.

I am using Windows Xp Home and Jaws 5.0 and it works for me in Microsoft
Word, however I have not tried for Notepad and Wordpad.

Its not a fix, but atleast a workarround.
Try it, might work for you as well.
