My processor is over 2 gigs, I don't remember exactly, and I have 512 megs
of memory.
I do have a lot of stuff that starts on boot up, some of it I don't need
anymore, so I might try disabling some of that stuff at start up and see if
that makes a difference. There just must be a big difference in the way
that Norton 2003 runs and the way that 2006 does as far as how much
resources it takes up because I have been using Norton 2003 without a
problem up until this weekend.

What is the speed of your computer, how much memory do you have? I used to
have this problem with Norton when I only had a 256 MHz computer and 128
RAM. Now that I have a 2 GHz computer and loads of RAM I don't notice it as
much unless I have a lot of stuff going at once, for example, the other day
I was listening to a pod cast and answering e-mail when Norton did its scan,
definitely had some slowing then but normally I don't get that any more.

As far as I know it's not doing anything when it occurs, I got rid of the
option that made it scan for viruses automatically.

Is this when norton is scanning? If so I noticed the same issue when I
