No, you are right Cher, and to be honest I never do understand why the
dialog changes.
But where you see the link for change an account?
Don't enter on that, just arrow down twice and you should find change the
way users log on or off.

Thanks for your help Debbie. I have XP-Pro and (although I'm an
administrator) can't locate the options you mentioned. After I select
'change an account', I'm presented with a list of users and asked to
select which account I want to change.

I will file this away for use on other computers though. FS tech
support had previously told me that there is no way to have speech for
one user and not for another, so this is very interesting.

Click Start, click Control Panel, and then click User Accounts.
Tab to change an account, then arrow down to Change the way users log
on or
off link.
Tab and uncheck the Use the Welcome screen check box.
Tab and enter on apply options.
Yes, you can switch users and still have switch as long as you have
jaws
running as a service.
Debbie

NOTE: The Use Fast User Switching check box is unavailable until
you
click to select the Use the Welcome screen check box.

Would the member who posted instructions for locating this item (Fast
Switching) please repost the info about where to find this option.
I'm
sure I read it earlier, but cannot relocate it.

If this setting is disabled, can you switch users without losing
speech?

Cher

Hi this is not correct behavior jaws should remain running the hole
time.
I would guess you have fast user switching enabled. Then you would
see
the
problem you have described.

This is untrue. I have checked the option to start JAWS automaticly
before and, while it comes on for the login screen when the computer
is first powered on, or if and when the computer is restarted, it is
shut down by Windows when I log off my account so someone else can
use the machine.
