Judy,
Whether or not QuickBooks works with JAWS depends on what you mean by "works."
If you mean that you can use the program by memorizing the shortcuts and the
order of the various fields into which you enter data, then it works. If you
mean that JAWS speaks the label of each field as you tab to it and gives you
automatic feedback on status changes as it does in programs like MS Word and
Excel, then it doesn't work. When FS Tech Support told you that QuickBooks
doesn't work with JAWS, they just meant that the program wasn't supported with
JAWS scripts and therefore, you wouldn't get any automatic feedback from JAWS
when using the program.

I think it's great that there are folks that can work with QuickBooks by
memorizing the layout of the screen, but I'm not sure how many people could do
this or would be willing to try. As I recall, back in the days of computers
that used punch cards for input, there were a few blind people that could read
the code punched into the cards by feeling of the pattern of the holes. I
suspect that using QuickBooks without scripts is not as difficult as learning
to read machine code by feeling of punch cards, but it's not for everyone. It
probably works best for those who run their own business, know how their
accounts are set up and have the time to learn the layout of the various
QuickBooks screens. Going into a new job with a company using QuickBooks and
JAWS would not be for the faint of heart.

  Oh, Linda!!

This is such great news to hear. I wish I would have known you this summer.
I almost got a job offer in an office, but had to turn it down, because from
everything I could find out, I was told QB didn't work with Jaws, and that very
few accounting programs did. This info was from JFW tech support. With that
info, I didn't bother trying for myself, figuring tech support is the last word.

I am employed now, but this message gave me a pleasant double-take. Pleasant
because I'm glad to find someone who makes QB work. But am also troubled,
because it makes me wonder how much you can trust JFW tech support. With most
of my experience with them, they have been very good. But I got a bum steer
this summer with QB that could've made a big difference to me. I realize
people aren't infallible, and maybe there was something I should've or could've
done.

I hope my story wil benefit someone on this list.

Woops! Pecan pies are almost done!!I'm outa here to check on them! Thanks
again for sharing.

    Hi,

I expected someone would address this but since no one has, I will tell you
my experience. I am not using Jaws with the latest Quickbooks, but I have used
Jaws and Quickbooks for years. I am currently using QB 2004 at home. We are
just starting to use the time tracking feature of QB at work and it will be the
2010 version so I will be able to tell you more about that in a couple fo weeks.

It is very possible to use QB with Jaws. I find the registers navigatable.
It is necessary to know the order in which the columns are arranged because
jaws doesn't tell you what the column is, but you can learn them. There are
some keyboard shortcuts. You can use the review screen for several
applications. Are you familiar with QB?

    Linda

Does anyone know if there are Jaws versions that work with Quickbooks?
Have heard that Jaws "Professional?" works? Am fuzzy as to what Jaws
Professional is.
