The only thing that I can think of is that these keys are not defined in
keyboard manager.
When typing echo is set to characters jaws announces each key or key
combo you press which is not assigned to a script
If it is assigned to a script, jaws will not announce the name of that
key combo but execute the script associated with that key.
So if you press control+alt+page down and jaws says control+alt+page
down instead of turning the speed of jaws up, it means you have to
make sure that this key is defined in keyboard manager.
First of all, press insert+1 to turn on keyboard help. Now press
control+alt+page down or up. If jaws only says: control+alt+page up
instead of saying: decreases the rate of the active voice, it means you
have to define the keystroke in keyboard manager. If you use jaws7 you
can press the keystroke thrice while in keyboard help then jaws will
read the script's name assigned to the keystroke. If you press
control+alt+page down when in keyboard help and jaws says: decreases the
speed of the active voice, then something weird is happening which I
never experienced. Then your only bet is to either unload jaws and bring
it back, reboot your machine or do a jaws repair. But if you hear no
description while you press control+alt+page up or down while in
keyboard help mode, then you can go ahead and add a keystroke in
keyboard manager.Press insert+f2, press k and press enter. The keyboard
manager contains 2 panes.
You must be in the pane containing all the keystrokes, not the pane
that contains the different key map files. Press control+shift+d to be
in the default map so that all keystrokes is changed globally.
Now make use of first letter navigation, look for increase voice rate
and decrease voice rate.
Press control+a for add and press the correct keystroke such as
control+alt+page down and press enter.

On my computer, when I hit alt control page up or alt control page down
to make Jaws talk faster or slower, It does not, all it says is alt
control page up or alt control page down. It does not change the speed.
Can any one help?
