Hi Shannon:

As far as Excel is concerned, it's very easy to use with JAWS. Each
excel spreadsheet is laid out in columns and rows. Where a column and
row come together is called a cell. The columns are lettered "A", "B",
"C", "D", "E" and so on going across. Rows are numbered 1, 2, 3, 4, 5,
and so on going down.

When you press the tab key you move from cell to cell and JAWS will
announce which cell you are in. For example, as you tab across, JAWS
will say "A1", "B1", "C1", "D1", "E1" and so on. When you arrow down
you move from row to row. For instance, "A1", "A2", "A3", "A4", "A5"
and so on.

You can put either text or numbers in each cell, and you could also put
formulas in. For example, you could have a simple spread sheet like:
In A1, you have the word "Lettuce." In B1, you have the value .99
In A2, you have the words "Swiss cheese." In B2, you have the value
2.99.
In A3, you have the word "Bananas." In B3, you have the value .69

You leave A4 and B4 blank. Then in A5, you have the words "Total
grocery bill" and in B5, you write the following exactly as shown:
=b1+b2+b3. Putting the '=' sign as the first character in a cell tells
Excel that a formula is about to be specified. If you tab after putting
this formula in, then shift tab back to B5, you'll hear JAWS say 4.67.

If you were to change the value of B3 to .89, then tab and arrow to B5
again, you'd then hear 4.87. This is one of the most powerful features
of Excel, that when you change a value in a cell that is part of a
formula, the result of the formula changes to reflect the value change.

Excel is far more powerful and can do many more things. As far as using
Outlook Vs. Outlook Express, for sending and receiving mail, they work
very similar to each other. However, Outlook is more powerful with the
ability to store contacts, put appointments on a calendar, assign tasks
that need to be done and much more. I think a little exploring of
Outlook will help you understand it.
