Hmm. going back to the original question, I just had the problem described,
and what I had to do to fix it was reinstall the drivers for the Intel
graphics card my desktop uses and then, I reinstalled Video Intercept, and
then, it was fixed.

I have to agree.  When I read that I absolutely cringed.  Under no
circumstances should you go and mess with msconfig if you don't know
what you're doing.  It can screw everything up like you would not
believe.  I almost got a dell at work but decided on a ThinkPad
instead and it is working great with Jaws.  Is changing laptops an
option for you?  I really recommend the Lenovo ThinkPads.  I had my
tech folks tell them what I wanted on it and what I didn't and it all
worked out just fine.  Just a thought.  I've heard dells are a pain in
the butt.
