Jaws 8 and ms word

I use word everyday and when I am typing text in word 2002 using jaws 8 and 
put in a period, jaws says space, when I arrow back there is no period. If I 
switch to jaws 7 it is there. Does anyone else have this problem and if so 
do you know if it is fixed with the new update? My internet connection is 
dial up and takes hours to download so unless this is fixed I don't want to 
bother downloading the latest update.
