Marsha,
I have the same experience of JAWS 8 reporting buttons as "inactive," but
you'll find they are, in fact, working. As for phantom attachments, I
encountered that issue in JAWS 6.2 as well as 8, and I think more often.
Otherwise, I find JAWS 8 gives me greater, not less, access to the Net and
other applications.

I am very disapointed in Jaws 8. There are so many sites that I can not get
it to read. Between telling me there are non-existant attachments to telling
me that buttons are inactive. I have two versions of Jaws close at hand
since Jaws 7 seems to be able to read more things.
