Jaws 7.1 and Magic Jack

Hi all,
I may have asked about this in the past, but I don't remember, so please help.
I know that I need to adjust the volume in order to get rid of the irritating
echo, but I can't seem to do this without sighted help, which I can't get most
of the time (I have to unplug and re-plug the dumb adapter everyday during
start-up so that I don't have any internet connection issues).
Maybe there's something I'm not doing-does anyone have any ideas?
