Re: Jaws 6.1

Thanks for your observations, Guy. JAWS frequently freezes when I
simply try to open 'My Documents' or another folder, or if I move too
quickly while closing a program. I've been blaming this on the
computer; but now realize that it is truly a JAWS issue. In the
meantime, I've increased RAM to 1 GB and updated the video driver- with
no improvement. I knew that JAWS was the only thing freezeing up, but
could not believe that JAWS was causing all of this... Unfortunately,
when this happens, Narrator is rendered mute also, and you're stuck.

As a user of Jaws for only about two years I may not have the history
that a
lot of others do. But as a former systems analyst and applications
programmer I feel qualified to make the following observations.

Since 5.0 I have found and reported several small bugs in various areas
of
the program. The biggest of which is the apparent instability during
long
periods of fast keystrokes and it's habit of loosing focus in large
folders.
I realize that not all bugs will be fixed right away, but these are
simple
things that probably affect many other areas to.

As of the release of 6.1 I am finding a large number of people I talk
to who
use the program a lot more than I do are getting increasingly angry at
the
lack of response to bug reports. It seems that many of the reported
bugs
have gone through several versions with little or no improvement. If I
had
turned out a product of this quality I would have lost my job.

Jaws has allowed me to return to work after a ten year absence, so
please
don't let it all go to waste by not paying attention to the end users
and
loosing your market share. It is by far the best screen reader out
there in
my opinion. But if you don't start cleaning up the current code before

adding new it will soon go the way of many other good programs and be
priced
out of the market by cheaper and more dependable products.

Thank you: Guy E. Stevens, Toronto Ohio.
