Thanks Jim, it does get rid of checkboxcheck1 but it still says checkbox prior to the field name. I think it's because the field name spoken is the one provided by the help text added via the form field options. It's not the real text on the form itself. We have to rewrite the field name in order for Jaws to read it. Otherwise, the form will not be accessible. So, the text heard is virtually inside the checkbox, not outside in the field where it belongs. That's why we hear checkbox field name checked or unchecked. I don't know what else can be done here. I don't know if this will be helpful, but I have found that when creating a form with checkboxes, in the properties dialog of the form control, if there is a default bookmark assigned to the checkbox, such as checkbox 11, it is best to completely delete anything in the bookmark field. When there is no bookmark associated with the checkbox, Jaws announces the form control and its status much more clearly. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Adam Daou" <adam.daou@xxxxxxxxxx> To: <jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Friday, January 28, 2005 11:33 AM Subject: Re: Jaws 6 and Word forms: Is there a way to silence checkboxcheck? Sorry John, I wasn't clear enough in my message. This has nothing to do with checking or unchecking a checkbox with the space bar. The problem is what Jaws says when I tab from field to field. I just want to hear the field name followed by the checkbox status, checked or unchecked, nothing else! Here in my form, the word checkbox is overloaded by Jaws. It says checkboxcheck1 whatever name I have as a field name followed again by the word checkbox checked or unchecked. It's just annoying when you have a form containing many fields with checkboxes! If you hit your space bar then that checked box will be unchecked. Then it'll say unchecked so if you want it to say unchecked you should uncheck it. Hi all, I have a form containing field names with checkboxes. When tabbing to a field, Jaws 6 says checkboxcheck1 fieldname unchecked. 1 is the checkbox number. Checked the help file for forms, etc, in vain. Is there a way to have Jaws simply say: fieldname checkbox unchecked. Thanks in advance for any tip.
