JFW and start menu

Hi all,I am having a problem for the second time, and am quite frustrated. I am
unable to get to the start menu. When I hit the Windows key, it takes me to the
start button, not the start menu. I have tried tabbing and I have tried enter,
but nothing is working. So I can't shut down the computer, and I can't get into
most of my programs.
Any ideas how to handle this?
