Hi Edward.
You are right. JAWS will function in 40 minute mode only unless you purchase a full license. They used to offer a timed evaluation license which lasted 60 days. Not sure if they still do now thanks to the adoption of ILM and dongle authorizations.

Perhaps what I'm suggesting below is available, but I don't think so. I
believe JAWS only offers a 40 minute demonstration mode or a full purchase.
Here is the situation:
You are on your way to an important meeting with a team of clients or
co-workers. The meeting is at the end of a 3 hour plane trip, and the
anticipated meeting will take at least 4 hours -- actually 6 hours.
Your laptop, for whatever reason, stops working, and you need to borrow a
laptop from someone else in your party -- someone who really doesn't need it
for the meeting.
Finally, you are at the airport when you discover the problem, and you have 30
minutes before the plane takes off.
The above is not, unfortunately, hypothetical.
I had to download and learn NVDA on the fly -- literally. Thanks to this
group, I knew about it, and it works reasonably well.
Unfortunately, however, NVDA does not have a readily accessible mode for
reviewing track changes in a Word document. Similarly, exactly how to read
font attributes and colors (other than caps lock plus F) wasn't apparent.
Now, if I would have been able to download JAWS and pay for a 24 hour license,
I would have done it in a heartbeat. I would have gladly paid $100, and given
my state of near panic, I might have been willing to pay triple that amount --
though in retrospect that sounds excessive.
My real questions are:
1. Does JAWS have something like what I've just described -- a pay by the hour
mode? Unfortunately, at the time, I didn't really have time to investigate.
2. Is the above set of circumstances just too weird for Freedom Scientific to
offer a pay-by-the-hour license as an option? In other words, has anything
like the above ever happened to you, and would you be willing to pay a
reasonable sum in a pinch?
Thanks for any suggestions or help.
