I'm not sure if you're saying that we need to bring more sighted people in to learn Jaws (in the convention) or if you're wanting blind people to come and learn about new advancements. But where I live there are conventions every month discussing all the new technology things that are out there for blind people. I'm thinking either we need to bring someone onto a major TV network to talk about and or use this technology on a regular basis, or contact the large companies and ask/make them add a section in their trainings on how to help blind customers. I would say that we need to take it up with the public school system, but in the U.S. there wouldn't be any point because there aren't enough teachers who know how to teach blind awareness and the schools don't have enough money to get the teachers trained. I don't have any experience with field tec people, so I don't feel qualified to tell them what is going on now and how they could better serve me. I wouldn't mind being a test subject, or help in teaching, but I'm not experienced enough to talk knowledgeably about what is wrong. If someone could call AT&T as well as Dell (tec support for both should be able to help you, ask for the supervisor of the field tec support. Once you are able to go through the loops to get to him then explain you're blind and you just had a on-field tec person come to your house, then proceed to tell them what happened, emphasizing the absurdity of the situation. After you finish that Ask him if they have ever thought of adding a training program for serving blind customers? If he says something about, all the tec guys are free contractors so they don't have any control over their emploies, then ask to talk to his supervisor. Then if you are transferred, talk to the next guy and tell him the same thing, and let them know that they need to have a training on people with disabilities and you and a ton of other blind Dell or At@T users are willing to help them set up this program.
If someone could do this it would be awesome!I'd love to know what they say. If they give flack I can go on and talk to them...
