RE: JAWS and Pocket PC - a different solution

Hi.
        I, too, have contacted OQO. I wasn't too interested in the keyboard
(I would carry a small bluetooth keyboard like the stowaway anyway), but
what concerned me was the video card. I called them about this just after
the release of the product, and the response I got is below. It's less than
enlightening, as you'll see. I wrote back, asking for an answer as to Jaws
working with the video card, but got no response on that second message. If
anyone is able to get a demo unit (which I was not), or able to get a loan
of a unit for a few hours I, for one, would love to hear how Jaws worked. I
agree with you that this would be a great machine, but I'm not willing to
risk around $2000 with the very real possibility that Jaws and the video
card won't get along.

We cannot confirm that the Jaws for Windows software will work on the OQO
model 01 but looking at the system requirements (which can be seen here:
http://www.freedomscientific.com/fs_support/BulletinView.cfm?QC=175 )
the OQO model 01 is within the requirements of the software and should work
properly. If it does not, please call us and we can help troubleshoot the
problem.

already read. I think we ought to start a group to sort out the above

I looked at VisuAide=3DE2=3D80=3D99s Maestro, but I=3DE2=3D80=3D99m not =
really sure it =3D
is ready for prime time.  It certainly lacks cell phone functionality, =

there is no browser yet.
Alva has a unit, but it costs as much as a small car, and the Braille =
Note =3D
PK, from Pulse Data, is over the top in terms of expense.
I looked into the TALKS software for smarter cell phones, but it runs =
only =3D
on the Symbion (sp) operating system, which is fine for less than truly =
ser=3D
ious business types, but is more recreational than commercial.
So, there remain all those Pocket PC devices out there that =
won=3DE2=3D80=3D99t t=3D
alk.  JAWS could solve that problem, but if Freedom Scientific is wedded =
to=3D
 the business model of the proprietary, single use, vastly over-priced =
and =3D
over-sized piece of hardware, I guess we will remain stuck.
If the problem is technical, then I guess I can understand, but somehow =
I s=3D
uspect it isn=3DE2=3D80=3D99t just a technical matter.
