Well if you are authorized you should have no problem with the update.

You should be able to run it in normal mode.

I know, that's what I was trying to install. I down loaded it and then clicked on run and got the message that the 40 minute trial version had expired and Jaws went silent and I had to re-boot. I think I will just forget ver. 7.1, which is a mess anyway and wait for my CD of ver. 8.

hi. Ok, this type of update is designed for those people who are *already* running JAWS 7.10. you can get to the update by going to the help menu and pressing enter on the check for updates option. I'm guessing the reason you got the message about the 40 minute demo expiring and JAWS closing is because you are probably not authorized to run JAWS 7.10. If you go to your JAWS about box, it will tell you the version number, followed by the number of software upgrades remaining. This is not always an accurate number however, so you can always visit

http://www.fsactivate.com and go to the link that tells you how many software upgrades you have available. Simply type your JAWS serial number into the box, and when the next page loads, you'll be told how many upgrades you have available to you. Now, if you are already running JAWS 7.10 and you went to check for updates and no update was available to you, that's when you should download the full installable version. if this continues, i would contact FS tech support and see what they can do.

This is just to let you all know that an update for JAWS 7.1 has now been released. This is *not* the anticipated JAWS 8.0 release, just an update to JAWS 7.1 that makes a few changes, improvements and fixes.
The following is a list of items that were fixed in this update:

Resolved a longstanding issue related to certain video cards, where text
that had scrolled by the mouse pointer may no longer be read by JAWS.
Fixed an Internet Explorer 7 issue where navigating the drop-down list
of certain combo boxes in a Web page using the UP ARROW or DOWN ARROW
keys, JAWS would not always read the selected item.
Fixed the Typing Echo function, which would not work in an Adobe Reader
form opened using Internet Explorer 7.
JAWS now supports multiple user desktops, which solves an issue for the
Cisco Secure Desktop application.
Fixed the issue where switching between Eloquence and SAPI 4
synthesizers resulted in a crash.
Fixed an issue where using the TAB key to move about a Web page, and
downloading files from a Web page would cause Internet Explorer to
crash.
JAWS correctly speaks Microsoft Access form buttons.
In Microsoft Excel, if the text in a worksheet cell wraps to form
multiple lines, you can now use the Excel F2 function key and the UP
ARROW and DOWN ARROW keys to hear JAWS speak individual lines. In
previous releases, JAWS would read the entire cell contents.
Fixed a problem when selecting text from right to left in NotePad failed
if Enhanced Edit was turned on in this application.
When localizing screen sensitive help messages into French, the
following characters are no longer reversed: a and q; w and z.
Resolved issues regarding the Japanese keyboard layout and the CAPS LOCK
key.
Added a new keystroke, INSERT+WINDOWS+F4, which Support Staff can use
with customers to terminate JAWS and all related processes while
creating a memory dump file for JAWS at the same time. This will help
with further diagnosis in the future if problems arise. The file
containing the JAWS version number will be saved to:
C:\Documents and Settings\[your user name]\ApplicationData\Freedom
Scientific\JAWS\7.10\Settings\JAWSMemDmp

Thank you.
