Just earlyer today, I found that having the tutor messages and access keys
announced in JAWS is really too much verbage. Meaning that JAWS was using to
much speech, when I didn't need extra speech telling me to press the arrow keys
or use the spacebar. I'll admit that for a user starting out with JAWS, the
tutor messages are helpful. They are great indications of what to do in a
sertin
control or dialog box. However, in my experience with JAWS, I've found that
having the tutor messages for me is more of an annoyance then a help. It is not
needed if you have already used earlyer versions of JAWS such as 3.7. 3.7 is
the last version that wouldn't have extra speech. JAWS 4.0 started with the
tutor messages and access keys. I also use the demo version of JAWS for Windows
5.0, and yet I wonder wy have tutor messages? I found issues with that extra
speech. That output is not really required in JAWS. For example, wile on the
desktop, It is not nessasary to be told to move through items use the arrow
keys, because tippically as computer users, don't we already know how to do
that?
I believe that these messages are good for the beginner, or new trainer. But
in 3.7 we did not have this extra speech.
Another question that I cannot help asking is this.
Does anyone know when the JAWS 5.0 program was released? Wasn't it
something like October 13, 2003?
I am asking because, I had a demo of JAWS for Windows 4.50. It expired.
Meaning, that when I'd run it, I'd get a dialog telling me that I had 8 days
remaining, etc as the days past. Well Once I had used up the final days, I
tryed
using my full version of JAWS to reset my system date, then after restarting to
insure the changes whent in to effect, I tryed installing the demo, and it was
once again back working. That's wy I wonder out of cureosity if anyone knows
when the 5.0 program was released? I am not wishing to upset anyone on this
list by asking such a question. I feel I'm crossing lines here that should not
be crossed. If I've overstept my bounderys by asking this question, please
yel at me as long as you need to. I won't try asking such a question like this
again. Only reason wy I hope I'm not overdoing things by asking these
questions, is because on the JFWLite list, I got in big trouble for not keeping
my
subject lines appropriate and because of that, I was placed on moderated
stattice, and when I did it again, I was unsubscribed. Hopefully the same is
not
happening here. I apologize if I've upset anyone on this list. I do not wish to
do so.
With complete apologys and regards to the list, Keith.
