I have been pretty happy using the Gold lifetime version of Media Monkey.
it is to be found at www.Mediamonkey.com.
The non-gold version is free.
There is an option to use the skins for display or revert to Windows for
display, and I do the Windows display.
There are a lot of features that don't navigate well with keyboard, however.
But I've gotten to where I have figured out most of how to use it for what I
want.
That being said, however, as to ripping CD's, I still use the Windows Media
player because it has more of the fields to the files such as year of label
and composer and so on. But Media Monkey does also have various options of
where to have the online tagging of files on a cd.
I am still using version 10 of the Windows Media Player.

WMP does a good job. iTunes is solid too. Pretty straight forward as well.

CDEX is free and very good, can convert to wav, mp3, ogg, flac etc.
normalize, look up track info automatically online, etc. No scripts
required.
