Troy,
To stop Windows from prompting you to download IE 8, go to the Windows
update page and choose the custom update link. On that page, find the
checkbox for the IE 8 update and check it, then find the checkbox labeled
"Do not prompt me again" for this update and check it also. That should do
it.
