Kelly, Thanks. I'm saving the several messages of advice I'm receiving in response to my inquiry, and I'll be able to review them when I dedicate some time to installing IE7 and getting to know it. Right now, I'm still trying to work through a whole lot of buggy issues with FS tech support so I can see if Jaws 8 will ever behave normally for me, or if I have to give up and just run version 7 until version 9 comes out. This version 8 is a real hassle. By the way, and here's something even this FS tech support guy blanked out about when I asked him about it, how come with Jaws 8 and IE 6, every other time I open some Web page, a sort of pop-up comes up that seems to serve no actual function expect to say "RSS Feeds Available.," and offer a button to close it, though you can just hit Escape, and then the page that's loaded will open fully. What's that about? As it is, I can't imagine needing IE to play a sound! I've already got this annoying announcement thing that took me some time to figure out and get rid of without getting upset. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Kelly Ford" <kelly@xxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Tuesday, May 22, 2007 7:19 PM Subject: RE: IE 7 and JAWS Hi, Although it isn't JAWS specific, there is a quick reference guide to IE7 at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/ie/quickref.mspx. The most common hotkeys I use include: Ctrl+t to open a new tab. Ctrl+shift+q to list all open tabs. Ctrl+j to list RSS feeds I've subscribed to. Ctrl+e to put focus in the search box Some settings changes you may want to make: 1. Have IE play a sound when an RSS feed is detected by opening Internet Options, selecting the content tab and then feed settings. There's a check box to have a sound played. 2. You may also want to explore some of the tab settings. You can ensure that you only get one IE window open all the time by making some adjustments as to whether new pop-ups open in a new tab, a new window or if IE decides. Personally I set this to open in a new tab. With Jaws V. 8.0.2107, of course, is what I'm talking about. I've heard that it's only got a few features that a person would have to learn, like this thing about tabbed windows, but even then, what I'd like to know is, is there a place you can go to simply read some instructions for how to use the new browser, specifically with Jaws as your access tool? I'd love to consider finally switching over (upgrading, I guess we're supposed to say) because I heard in the FS podcast that IE 7 works really nicely with RSS feeds, and that's an area I'd like to learn how to work with, soon. thanks for any helpful suggestions. Are there any settings I should change in IE 7 to make it work better with JAWS? Thanks.
