Let me guess. Your computer is an HP. I'm assuming the touch pad can be
turned on again. Is this correct?

Depends on the hardware of the netbook. Some has a button or switch, some
you use keystrokes, usually the FN plus some other key. On mine I have to
physically go into Mouse Properties in Control Panel to permanently disable
my Synaptecs touchpad.
