If I'm not mistaken, the suggestion is to treat the greater than sign > as a word in the JAWS dictionary and then to type a single space in the replacement field. I expected JAWS to say "space," but it didn't verbalize anything.

I added the caveat that I have JAWS set to "some" punctuation, which may have skewed my results.

Hi,

Adrian, I can turn off the marks in quoting in the Outlook Express Options
menus, but that won't delete such marks from other people's messages that I
may be forwarding or replying to. I didn't say his second method doesn't
work, I said I don't get what he's talking about. It sounds as if he's
saying to open a message with the marks in it, use some sort of equivalent
to the control h you'd use in Word to find and replace a word or a
character, but there isn't any such function in Outlook Express, so far as i
know. Sorry. Just don't get what he's saying.

It works. I just tried it. Note that I'm already have the "some"
punctuation solution in place.

I'm not sure I understand the second method you've described. could
someone
else take a crack at this? It sounds interesting but I don't quite get
the
details.

Thanks.oundw

Here are a couple of solutions that came on the list a while back. I think one of them worked for me. Bob

If you go to the options menu, voices, global adjustments, and set your

punctuation to some, you won't hear the greater signs.

Go to the jaws window and go to the options menu.

Enter on voices.

Enter on global adjustments.

Tab to the punctuation combo box and choose none.

Tab and enter on okay.

Here's another possible solution.

While in outlook express do a insert d and enter on the add button, delete

what is in the edit field and do a shift on the period which is the
greater

sign, tab to replacement word and hit the space bar tab to OK and enter
and

alt f4 say yes to the changes.
