Re: Getting used to new version of JAWS

Now the answer to that question depends on the person. For me, it's usually fairly easy to transition over. As long as they don't change any major keystrokes to something seemingly illogical, everything's fine. to make things a little less difficult, it's always a good idea to find out as much information as you can about a forthcoming version. I'm not sure what you're using the page up and down for, since I very rarely use those myself, but I can't really answer that one. However, generally, as long as you keep on top of what's up with the latest version, you should have a little less difficulty with things. for example, when going from version 8 to 9, it would have been a heck of a lot harder if I didn't know anything about the redesigned verbosity dialog. I'm sure they wouldn't just go and change something major like that without saying anything about it--and, in fact, I am right in the case of the verbosity dialog. Interesting question you brought up, and I'm sure you'll receive a few interesting answers. lol Oh, and as far as deleting older versions, if you are one of the few ppl who uses Microsoft Office 97 (don't laugh--at the time when I switched over to XP from 98, that was the only thing I could afford and that was what I had), you might want to hang on to version 7 or 8 if you have it. If you use Office 2000 and up, go for it and delete the older versions. Mark

Subject: Getting used to new version of JAWS

Is it just me, or do the rest of you find it a nightmare getting used to new versions of JAWS? I just installed version 9, but I can't page down and get to where I would have been when I was using JAWS 7 or 8. Also, the display seems to be different, as the ctrl+downarrow either skips over a lot of what used to be blank lines or there seem to be more blank lines depending on what webpage I'm on. Even so, I'm considering deleting previous versions so that I'll be forced to get used to this new monstrosity. Sorry this really isn't a technical question, just wanting to know others' experiences in upgrading and getting used to differences between versions.
