Re: Getting around Winamp Update freeze-out

After you've updated, go to preferences and uncheck the check for updates at start up checkbox.

Yeah, the update thing is kind of wierd. Winamp 5.52 was recently released. If you don't wanna menoover around the winamp site, you can download it from the following url.

Subject: Getting around Winamp Update freeze-out

I think there are some enthusiastic Winamp users on this list. Maybe some of
you will understand and give me directions.

From time to time, as has happened this evening, I click on some audio file
that launches Winamp, and the file plays. But there's a catch.

All The main thing Jaws will say about Winamp as the file plays is "Winamp
Update." It may also mention the name of the file that's playing, but the
main thing it says is Winamp Update and, whenever it does this, I can't
access Winamp to pause or stop the file playing. I'm partially sighted, and I can see that the Winamp interface is on the screen and ordinarily I'd be able to control it with the familiar basic Winamp laying commands. But when it announces Winamp Update, these commands can't touch it. Nor, even if I'm interested, can I respond in any way to this Winamp Update notification. If I tab, for instance, nothing happens. I don't land on some button that says
update Winamp now by clicking here, so that something happens and ends my
misery. No. I have to stop Winamp playing by pressing control alt delete and
trying a few times to end the process, as they say.

Now, I'm sure there's something more graceful I can do when this happens.
But what is it? I'd be happy to update the application, but it's not as if I
can just tab to something and press okay. I just get stuck.

Informed advice will be appreciated.
