You really should let win amp inform you about updates. Many of these updates fix issues with codex and security Problems. Leaving this feature on there for is a good idea. It lets you know when it is time to update your win amp. The only time it is a good idea to disable this is when you are using a older operating system like windows 98 and cannot use the latest version of the program. Hope this helps.
