Frankly, there are other firewalls which are much easier to use. I suspect, although I'm not totally certain, that there is some difference in implementation between the free and pro versions of ZoneAlarm. But, when I used the free version in the past, there were times when the dialog window was inaccessible with the Jaws cursor; at least back when I had JFW 3.7 and 4.0. It wasn't worth the bother of fighting battles to deny or allow the various programs to access the Internet. As far as free firewalls, Kurio and Outpost work well. I use Norton Internet Security, which also works fairly well with its web-like display. If you have doubts on your firewall's efficacy, just go to grc.com and run the shields up up application. You can have it do a comprehensive port scan. I've found Kurio to be quite effective in stealthing ports so that they are totally invisible from hackers. Just my two cents. I wouldn't go through the frustration with Zone Alarm when there are other firewalls out there that do as good of a job.
