Okay. As much as I like to encourage debate... what does 1 space vs. 2 spaces have to do with JAWS? If you'd like to continue that particular debate, please do so off-list. I've already introduced one person to the moderation features of the list after my last message.

Hi,
We've just had a discussion about this. Double spacing after a sentence
while typing used to be standard, and now some sources of authority like the
Chicago Manual of Style say single spacing is preferable, while others stay
with two spaces. You can do whatever you like. As for Word, it's no
authority on anything, particularly, and can't stop you from typing any way
you like.

By the way, one thing seems to have gotten confused during this discussion,
in case anyone noticed. It began as a question only about how to type. But
in the thread, and even in an excerpt from the Chicago manual of Style, the
typing issue got conflated with the use of spacing between sentences in
printed material like books. This isn't the point. It was only about the
execution and appearance of a typed document, whether on the computer or on
hard copy. Actual printing is a different issue, and not one for us
civilians to worry about unless we're involved in designing a book, a task I
suspect few people with our average visual powers are likely to be called
upon to perform.
