Re: Downloading & installing Internet Explorer

I know of two other people who also had problems with IE 8 and the Radio Shack site, so it seems to be hit or miss. And I haven't had any problems with Real Player using IE 7, so it must be a quirky thing.

I access the radio shack page often here and have done so many times with
IE8 in the last 2 weeks. Also I don't have to use the compatibility mode
with that page. I did have a problem with real audio that I used FF for but
it didn't work with IE7 either.

Using JAWS 9 with XP Pro SP3, IE 8 was unable to load some web pages, even
in compatibility mode. For instance, every time I tried to access the Radio
Shack home page, I would get an error dialog that IE needs to close, and I
would be returned to my home page or previously visited site when I clicked
on the Okay button in this dialog. I never had any problem with IE 7 or
Firefox. Also, embedded Real Player audio didn't seem to work in IE 8. So
I'll wait awhile before I try it again.

Not sure as to what problems you are encountering with IE8 but here it's
working very well with no real issues for me. Running XP SP3, IE8 and
latest build of jaws 10.

Yep, eventually, IE 8 will become available as an Automatic Update. Maybe
by then the bugs will be worked out.

automatic update.

You could upgrade to IE 8, but I would not recommend doing that at this
point, since it still has some glitches that need to be worked out
before
it is really ready for prime time. I would also not recommend
installing
an earlier version of IE from one of the third-party IE collections
that
are widely available. If you have trouble with IE now, just try
installing one of the earlier versions of IE from one of these free
software suites. You'll be ready to chuck your computer out the window. Like you, I was experiencing frequent crashes with IE 7, so I decided to
download one of those free IE collections. It completely screwed up my
IE favorites and RSS feeds, so I had to uninstall it and perform a
system
restore to getIE 7 working normally again. So before you give up on IE
7, try doing a system restore. If you want to try IE 8, be sure you
download it directly from the MS web site and not some third-party site.

*Hi list: I am running XP and jaws 7. Several days ago I I
inadvertently downloaded the Spy Protect 2009 virus. What a
nightmare. A friend used Smit Fraud Fix to remove it and with
little problem. However, since then Internet Explorer (**Version:
7.0.5730.11) has been crashing frequently. I was wondering if I
should attempt to replace it or perhaps run a System Restore. If
I decide to replace it what is the best version to download, from
where should I download it, and what problems should I expect. Also
what preperation should I make before the download and
installation. Any advice would be appreciated. Kathye*
