Good afternoon Kane,
I do believe that the SAPI user dictionary can be customized, but to the
best of my knowledge it has to be done programatically. If you like I can
send you a URL explaining how to do this, but you'd have to be familiar with
Microsoft programming languages to make use of it.
Thanks,
Everett

Subject: Customizing Microsoft's TTS Engine's Pronunciations
Sorry for the somewhat off-topic nature of this question. But it
deals with Microsoft's TTS engine; and while this question arose when
I was dealing with a portable MP3 player, it probably could apply to
Narrator. I first posted this to the Rockbox list but have received
no response.
I've noticed that after using Voicebox+ (with Microsoft's
Text-to-Speech Engine) to create .Talk clips with file and directory
names for my iPod, some file names are not spoken exactly as I would
like them. For instance, the word LG (as in the cellular phone brand)
is pronounced "large," regardless of which Microsoft TTS voice I pick
in the Windows Control Panel.
Is there any way of customizing the speech engine so that it
pronounces certain things in a preferred way, such as what one can do
with JAWS by altering the DEFAULT.JDF dictionary file?
Thanks a lot for any ideas.
-Kane
