A suggestion from me. I also followed the link you gave and had success.
The step you may be missing and that others haven't mentioned is to press
enter when you land on the combo box. At a combo box, I first press enter
and then alt-down-arrow. In this case, these two steps held the selections
for me so that I could move up and down the list without making an
inadvertent selection.
