John, is it hard to script a program? I ask this because scripting is something
that I am very interested, but I don't have the knowledge to do it. My 2 majors
in university are translation and education but I find scripting so interesting
that I would like to learn it to make a couple of programs that I have a bit
more accessible. So, again, is it hard to learn. At least to script for jaws?
Thanks.

Yes, there is a focus issue with the store. I could easily fix that. Most all
the stuff you want for iTunes is so easy now that I know what to do. I see
development for this one particularly quick once I actually get started.

Yes, it is possible to use itunes to get the aps and transfer to the phone
but the interface is very clunky with jaws. Biggest problem is that once you've
gone into iStore land its darn near impossible to efficiently get back out and
to the source list. For me it has required lots of tabbing in reverse and or
shifting the views through the menus to get out of iStore land. Frankly I'm not
even certain which "trick" is getting me out of jail when I do succeed. Not
sure if this is a problem due to j-tunes or just a problem due to jaws and
itunes playing rough together. It is indeed more efficient however to by the
apps via itunes and sync with the phone simply because typing on a keyboard is
faster than entering through the touch screen.

It appears that iTouch and iPhone are moving into the accessibility category
and more will use them. I have an iTouch myself. One thing I noticed is the
inability to uncheck songs from being synced if you want to manually manage
your library. Does jaws allow you to uncheck songs from the list? Alsois it
possible to transfer apps to the phone using the iStore in the application
instead of doing it on the phone? That would be nice because it would take less
time if Jaws allowed it.

I agree. Itunes is essential for using the iphone, the iphone is arguably
the most accessible smart phone out there, and for the windows and jaws user
there needs to be a good solution. J-tunes just isn't keeping up and as noted,
it really doesn't "bring that much to the party."
Tiptoeing around in itunes is frustrating at best and disruptive at worst.
It would be nice to have stronger jaws scripting for the application. As noted,
the iStore currently throws the limited functionality of jaws and itunes on its
ear.

Well, look at the jTunes and build from there. Just kidding. Even though
the jTunes cost 75 dollars, they don't bring to much to the party. Well,
suggestions on what I want on iTunes. Well, access to the help file. Second,
since jaws 12 or iTunes 10.2.1 (don't know which one) broke the iTunes store,
the iTunes store would be very nice. A way to imput data or create an account
without turning the virtual cursor off. A way to get all the easily accessible
information for sighted people (track name, time, number of tracks, etc.) in an
easy matter. Jaws iimput when selecting tracks via the control plus spacebar
method. Those are just of a few suggestions. I am going to left this open for
people's imput.

ITunes is a good one. I know that some of it can't be accessed easily
without the jaws cursor. Definately an easier app to work with since they are
Microsoft accessibility access friendly. Plus I noticed that they leave the JSS
file open to scripters. Just in case we wanted to add to it. Give your thoughts
on what we want iTunes to do. I definately use iTunes myself and it is a
popular app. As far as the need, we still have to hear more input from
everyone. Good suggestion.

Hmmm... I would like to see scripts (free scripts if possible) for
iTunes. I downloaded the jTunes scripts (version 5.5) and I did not like them
at all. They did not added much to the party and there are some parts of iTunes
that since version 10.2.1 have become completely inaccessible. E.G. the iTunes
store.
Other program I would love to see a script being developed is for DVD fab
platnum.
I am thinking of a couple, but I doubt there will be any interest among
blind persons, so I won't mention them. At least for now.

Subject: Coding for a new jaws accessible app
Hi folks,
As my 32nd birthday approaches, I think I am going to make a habit of
picking one new application per year to make jaws accessible. Picking Rhapsody
was not an easy task, but it taught me many things about an application that
seems next to impossible to make behave. I am taking off this summer from
school and will have the time to code a new application. Rhapsody Blind was a
test to see if I could pull it off, and it worked. I selfishly chose the first
one, now I'm looking for the popular vote on what you might want. I probably
won't start until this semester is over at the end of May, so this gives plenty
of time to decide. It would be a good idea to chat among each other and find
out what is needed or just plain want for entertainment purposes. So, let's
open up the floor and hear some suggestions.
Thanks,
John Martyn
