Re: Can JAWS damage Word files?

Often the problem with Word, when it doesn't open at all, is Normal.dot,
the template Word uses to format new files. Doing a search for normal.dot
may find a number of files with that name. The size of the one on my
computer right now is 26k. By looking at the size of your normal.dot and
the date of the last modification, you can see whether it might be the
problem.

A friend contacted me March 3 because her Word wouldn't open. Her
Normal.dot was 327k, last modified March 2. Overlaying her 327k version of
the file with my 26,k version solved the problem. Copying things into
word like pictures and e-mails can trash the normal.dot. Apparently these
types of files can include characters that totally befuddle the template.
