RE: Announcing the jaws scripting forum

For those of you who are already good JAWS scripters, we have a full
time job available for one of you who may want to move to St. Petersburg
and join the FS team. If you are interested, you can read the job
posting on our web site and send an email with your resume attached
either to the HR link on the web page or directly to me.

FS is a really fun place to work and the scripters have a lot of
influence on the look and feel of the product. It's one of the few jobs
where you will have the opportunity to invent your own future.

I'm pleased to announce a new event called the Jaws scripting forum. It
will
take place every Saturday afternoon at 3:00 PM U S Eastern time. This is
8:00
PM Universal time. This event will be held on for the people in the room
called "the Jaws scripting forum". You will find the JAWS scripting
forum
room
in "the special interest rooms" category .

It will consist of two to two and a half hours of lecture and
discussion.
During the first hour we will have a lecture on a beginning scripting
subject.
The second hour will be a roundtable discussion by experienced
scripters.
They will share their knowledge on specific scripting topics and
scripting
problems
and take questions from other participants in the forum.

This structure for the forum is only a loose structure for the beginning
of
the event. It will certainly evolve from there and I feel sure that
everyone
will benefit, no matter what level of scripting you have attained.

In future weeks, we may make adjustments to such things as the time the
event is held, or we may even add additional times which might include
more
structured
courses and specific scripting projects. For now, you are invited to
attend
the Saturday afternoon session. Your attendance to the scripting forum
will
help ensure the success of the project and we will all improve our
scripting
skills by participating.

If you haven't yet joined ForThePeople, and you want to attend the
event, I
recommend you join ForThePeople as soon as possible. Joining
ForThePeople
involves
an easy registration process. You can make this happen by going to

www.for-the-people.com

and then clicking Enter on the Join link. Please read the policies
before
submitting your application.

You'll be asked to choose two nicknames. These are the names by which
you
will be known in the rooms. I suggest that frequent contributors to this
list
use, as one of their nicknames, the name by which they are known on this
list.

You will need a microphone and a sound card to participate in the rooms.
A
multichannel sound card is recommended. You must receive confirmation
before
you
enter a room. Also, you will need to enable the Allow Session Cookies
option
in Internet Explorer in order to enter the room smoothly. The Allow
Session
Cookies option is found in the Advanced Settings button of the Privacy
tab
of the Internet Options in Internet Explorer 6 Tools menu. For step by
step
instructions, visit the Help link on the ForThePeople front page.

If you do the initial steps to join the site, enter a room, and check
that
your microphone is working correctly, you will have a smooth and
beneficial
experience
at the start of this exciting event.

Beginning and advanced scripters alike are encouraged to attend. I know
that
we've all wished for the opportunity to pick the brains of other
scripters,
when we get stuck on a scripting issue. This list has provided an
excellent
way of doing this, and will certainly continue to be the major way to
share
ideas and information on scripting. The JAWS Scripting Forum is intended
to
augment the great resource that is this list, and offer real time
feedback
about questions that sometimes are more easily asked in realtime.

I hope to see you all there in Saturday afternoon at 3:00 Eastern time.
Try
to be there early.

Thanks

Steve Shepherd
