My wife uses Jaws 8 with XP pro on a laptop and we see this issue with the
left Alt key.?? Sometimes the alt key works normally and sometimes it does not.

I can duplicate this under Windows XP. For some reason, on some keyboards at
least, the right alt key not only performs it function, but seems to "push
down", or even "lock", the control key, making it think that you want to
press control in combination with the alt key. My advice is to *always* use
the left alt key, which doesn't have this issue. I'm not sure of the direct
cause, but I have certainly noticed this on my Windows XP machine, to which
I rarely, if not ever, used the right alt key anyway. Hope that helps.?
