Bill,

Try turning on formatting in the JAWS options. Also go to the tools/options
dialog and set various special characters to be visible.

You could also highlight all your text and change the style to body text,
which I think will remove all indents and outdents.

After trial and error, I've figured out that the problem was not with
alignment after all, but with the fact that a number of hanging indents had
crept into the document, and of course I couldn't see them when they did.
Is there a way to remove only the hanging indents, or do I have to remove
all formatting from the document? That kind of seems like the nuclear
option, but I'm writing a novel and I really can't sound out my sentences
when they're broken up like this.
